Laptop Computer Rentals
When you’re looking at your PC gaming needs (wants, desires, whatever…), a laptop computer rental may just be the way to go, and I’d say that it is an option that many do overlook.
Of course it’s nice to know you own something, but with technology like laptops, the value on your initial purchase price will probably fall very quickly. It’s like a new car – as soon as you drive it off the lot they say that the value diminishes by a third.
So consider this for a start, if you do decide to rent a PC/Laptop, you don’t need to outlay a heap of cash for a system that may well be obsolete in two or three year’s time. That’s an attractive option if you’re cash-strapped, and can’t or don’t want to save.
Now even better, if you’re self employed or a contractor, you can probably claim the laptop rental or lease cost for tax purposes. The amount you can claim of course does vary across states and countries, so of course it would be a good idea to check with a financial adviser first to see exactly what the benefits are. Or check out the relevant government websites that should detail exactly what you can claim.
But ultimately, the thing I find attractive about renting a laptop is the ability to upgrade at very little cost every year. If you can get a lease agreement for a year or even 18 months, once the term is up, in most cases you can re-sign up again for a new agreement with a better laptop.
So effectively you’re upgrading your laptop every year or so for what may well be less than the cost of initially buying one and holding onto it for two, three years or more and then upgrading.
And another big plus is the service options that normally go with the rental agreement – from what I’ve seen they are better than the after-sales service you might get after buying a laptop outright.
Now it also doesn’t hurt to bargain when you’re shopping around for a laptop to rent. I have to say, I used to be a wimp when it came to shopping – I would go with the ticket price no matter what. But really, there is nothing to be lost in asking for more. Nine times out of ten, you will not lose.
Haggle with the sales rep and see what freebies he or she will throw in just to get the sale. You don’t know unless you ask. Maybe a free mouse or laptop bag or maybe even a game!
Now a point I’d just like to make you aware of if you’re going to go out and rent a laptop – check the small-print on the rental agreement. Actually, this is a big point. Please read what you are signing up for. I cannot emphasize this enough.
Most importantly check out the insurance clause. If the laptop you lease is stolen, or destroyed in fire or someother disaster, you need to determine if that is a loss covered by the company you lease it from, or whether it needs to be covered by your personal insurance? Clarify this before you sign the paperwork.
Anyway, in summary, if you’re looking for a good, gaming laptop, then a rental may well be the way to go.
